AP Science News January 26th 2013 Athens Greece

Archaeologists from the University of Athens stumbled upon what appears to be the first ever wallpaper site found from antiquity. Although cut from stone and not from the customary pixels of today’s wallpapers, the site revealed many astonishing works of art. Carbon dating suggests the site dates back to around 60 BC. Archaeologists are extremely excited about this date as it coincides with the Antikythera mechanism.

This mechanism is thought to be the world’s first computer discovered off the Greek island of Antikythera in 1900 by sponge divers. This 2000 year old mechanical computer was remarkably ahead of its time by a thousand years and believed to be the brain child of Greek inventor and mathematician Achimedes.

The Nexus site as it is known today holds many secrets waiting for the archaeologist in all of us to discover; all you have to do is dig!
