the image you see here was an engraving done by Paul Revere at the request of Patrick Henry. it was a propaganda piece, the actual event happened nothing like this. the british soldiers thought one of the protesting colonists had fired a shot and fired at the crowd believing it was self defense. Henry knew this image would rally the colonists to the cause of independence, and it did. later on however, those soldiers were successfully defended by none other than John Adams. he took a lot of heat for defending them but he argued if they are given anything less than a fair trial than we are no less barbaric than the crown, he was right
