Most times when a cowboy got off his horse (on a big ranch) he went to relieve his bladder or intestines, or he was gathering wood to boil coffee, or cook a rabbit, or a snake for his supper. He kept bisquits in a saddle bag for his horse and himself. It was rare to find a cowboy on the ground, unless he was mending a fence, shoeing his horse, or the things I've already mentioned, above. If you were hired to mend fences, you had a wagon full of fencing supplies, and posts and one horse pulled the wagon. At night, you slept in the wagon......:)
