TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS was written by Clement Clarke Moore in 1823. Moore wrote the poem in a sleigh on the way home with a turkey one night. The driver looked like Santa and gave him the idea for the poem. The original title was A VISIT FROM ST. NICHOLAS. Changes were made over the years, that is how it became the story we all know today. Moore used to read it to his wife and six children. I heard him exclaim, 'ere he drove out of sight. "Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"

At my home, St. Nick drank beer and ate Cornish pasties and brought all the decorations and presents while we slept on the 24th. We woke to a wonderland on Dec. 25.
