Adolph Friedrich Erdmann von Menzel, knighted in 1898, born 8th December 1815 in what was then Prussian Wroclaw; †9th February 1905 in Berlin) was a painter, draftsman and illustrator. He is considered the most realist of the 19th German Century. His work is extremely varied, well-known and highly honored in his own lifetime, he was mainly due to its historical images from the life of Frederick the Great.
