You know(?) a real cowboy worked from sun-up until sun-down, ate raw vegies or dried meat for a lunch, out on the trail, while still performing his regular duties. If he was working on a small ranch, he got to sleep in a bunk-house every night. If it was a big ranch, he slept while still sitting on his horse, rarely ever sleeping on the ground (like TV & movies show us). He took a bath every Saturday night, unless it was winter and the water was froze. Most cowboys (or ranch-hands) were thin, ugly boys or men, had nasty or crooked teeth (if they had any), wore dirty clothes, rarely wore underwear (except in the winter) and rarely cut or combed their hair. They trimmed their finger and toe nails with a pocket knife, rarely ever shaved, or brushed their teeth. This was luxury things to do before a funeral.
