The USSR stands for United Soviet Socialist Republics, as Russia was not the only republic in the USSR, if you meant the Russian republic in the USSR you would have written RSSR (Russian Soviet Socialist Republic)

the former USSR (United Soviet Socialist Russia)... not exactly comforting. just ask the east germans! makes for great wallpaper though! (if you're a die hard communist lol)
