Death of a Vampire

Death of a Vampire - abstract, artwork, brick, photography, skull, undead, vampire

Wallpaper Description:
During the Middle Ages, vampires were believed to be responsible for spreading the plague.
"De Masticatione Mortuorum", translated from Latin as “On the Chewing Dead,” is an aged manuscript written in 1679 by Philip Rohr. The 330-year-old text discusses a common fear of the time: that some human corpses were capable of rising from the dead and feasting on the flesh of the living.
Placing a brick in their jaws was believed to prevent the vampire rising from the dead and infecting more people.
Recently a 16th-century mass grave has been unearthed near Venice that includes a skeleton with a brick apparently inserted between the jaws of the skull.
Evidence of a macabre ritual designed to "kill" a vampire? Who knows!!
