Wallpaper Description:
I hope everyone on Desktop Nexus has or will have an enjoyable but thoughtful Memorial Day. (Canada celebrated theirs a week ago; and I know that most other countries have similar observances.) The United States celebrates Memorial Day on May 28th this year.

I thought long & hard about the meaning of Memorial Day this year. I don't know who authored the first sentence on my wallpaper, but the rest of the words (posted below) are my own.

CollieSmile

To those who bravely gave their lives for our freedom...

To those who have survived wars, conflicts, & disasters, but mourn their fallen comrades...

To all who have lost loved ones in the name of freedom, or who may at any time...

Thank You.

“Finally, I wish to remember the millions of Allied servicemen and prisoners of war who lived the story of the Second World War. Many of these men never came home; many others returned bearing emotional and physical scars that would stay with them for the rest of their lives. I come away from this book with the deepest appreciation for what these men endured, and what they sacrificed, for the good of humanity.“ -Laura Hillenbrand

“Their remembrance be as lasting as the land they honored.” –Daniel Webster

US was never under any attack since the Independence day and War of 1812

Mexican war was about Mexicans fighting to recapture their own land and there was a brief Canadian invasion, but US army, navy and air-force helped tremendously towards the victory against German occupations of Europe during the 1st and 2nd World War's

American involvement in wars of other countries is always motivated by a desire to protect basic human rights, the real democracy (freedom of speech, choice) and to cripple, if not destroy perpetrators of oppression with their various forms of dictatorships So, in this way, fighting for what is right is justified and widely accepted course of action and America has served the world well in this respect:):)
